Keretapi Sarong has grown from a small cultural initiative into one of Malaysia’s most anticipated annual events. This year, Keretapi Sarong 2025 (KS25) returns for its 9th edition, promising a colorful, creative, and heartwarming celebration in conjunction with Hari Malaysia. Taking place 8am onwards on 13 September 2025, KS25 invites Malaysians—and even international guests—to gather in traditional attire, especially the sarong, and ride together on public transport in a joyful flash mob-style event across the Klang Valley and selected cites across the nation such as George Town, Ipoh, Kuantan, Sungai Petani, Pasir Mas, Johor Bahru, and Melaka.

KS25 Participants dress in traditional outfits featuring the iconic sarong and commute via public transport such as MRT, LRT, Monorail and KTM lines. Together, they journey along selected routes, ultimately arriving at a mystery location where the celebration continues with performances, music, and more. This year’s theme, “Serumpun”, reflects a wider message of unity beyond national borders. Inspired by Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, the theme embraces shared cultural roots across the Nusantara region, which includes ASEAN countries. KS25 aims to show that while unity starts with Malaysians, it extends throughout the region. We may see people wearing traditional outfits not just from Malaysia, but also from other ASEAN nations.
