The introduction of the ETS Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru train service marks a significant upgrade to intercity travel in Malaysia, offering a modern and efficient alternative to driving or flying. This rail connection, which officially launched in December 2025, dramatically reduces travel time between the capital and the southern gateway, shrinking the 330-kilometer journey from the previous 5-7 hours to approximately 4.5 hours. The launch completed the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Track Project, creating a continuous electrified rail line along Malaysia’s west coast.
The ETS service provides a comfortable and convenient option for both business and leisure travelers, particularly when connecting to Singapore. Tickets start at RM82 for Standard Class and range from RM150-170 for Business Class, offering a competitive price point compared to other transportation methods like express buses (RM35-60, 5-6 hours) or flights (RM150-300 plus airport transfers).
The trains, featuring six coaches (five Standard Class and one Business Class), depart from KL Sentral and arrive at JB Sentral in Johor Bahru's city center. Business Class passengers enjoy enhanced comfort and amenities including exclusive Ruby Lounge access, wider reclining seats, personal entertainment systems, complimentary refreshments (coffee, muffins, snack boxes), and a quieter cabin. Both Standard and Business Class coaches are equipped with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and a prayer room. Onboard dining is available, with a dedicated dining area in Coach C and complimentary refreshments for Business Class travelers.

Passengers should be aware that the cabin air conditioning is quite cool (16-20°C), so bringing warm clothing is recommended. Large windows offer scenic views of the Malaysian countryside throughout the journey.
JB Sentral, the arrival point in Johor Bahru, connects directly to the Singapore CIQ complex, facilitating cross-border travel. While the upcoming RTS Link, expected to open in early 2027, will provide a much faster connection to Singapore’s Woodlands North (approximately 5 minutes), travelers currently can rely on road transport or the existing shuttle service. The KL-JB ETS route includes 16 stops between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, providing accessibility to various towns and cities along the west coast of Malaysia.
