Plans to bring the Shah Alam LRT line into service remain delayed, as Transport Minister Anthony Loke said there is still no confirmed date for the start of its compulsory “fault-free run” (FFR). As a result, commuters in the Klang Valley will need to wait longer for the line, previously known as LRT3, to begin operations. Loke explained that the FFR has not started because the contractor is still addressing unresolved issues, and no firm timeline has been set. He added that Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and the main contractor are expected to meet next week to decide on the next steps.
The FFR is a crucial integration test to ensure that all trains and supporting systems operate together safely and smoothly. Loke emphasised that all 23 trains must complete the FFR successfully before trial operations can be considered. “Although the delay is disappointing, safety must come first. The contractor must be held accountable,” he said at a media briefing on Prasarana’s 2025 performance and its outlook for 2026 at the company’s headquarters in Ara Damansara. The Shah Alam LRT line was initially scheduled to open on Sept 30 last year, later postponed to Dec 31. However, Prasarana announced last month that the launch would be delayed again due to system stability and software-related problems.
Once operational, the 37km line is expected to benefit over two million residents. It will feature 25 stations running from Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang, connecting densely populated neighbourhoods with key commercial centres across the Greater Klang Valley.
