Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line opening date updates will be revealed next month April 2026. Prasarana president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan has said earlier this week that the fault-free running (FFR) tests for the third train set, which involves eight trains, are in the final stage. “We will hold another press conference this April. I cannot confirm the exact date (for operations to begin) yet, as everything depends on the safety assessor’s decision.” he was quoted as saying. Official announcement of the commencement of LRT3 operations can only be done once the safety assessor gives their approval and there are no safety concerns or unresolved issues.

Earlier reports cited Transport Minister Anthony Loke as saying that the LRT3 service linking Shah Alam and surrounding areas is expected to begin operations by June. However, the line must first successfully complete all testing, commissioning and technical rectification processes within the next one to two months.

Separately, Anthony Loke told the Dewan Rakyat during Question Time this week that the main contractor for the Shah Alam LRT (LRT3) project faces liquidated and ascertained damages (LAD) amounting to RM474.9 million as of Dec 31, 2025. The sum is based on a daily LAD rate of RM2,729,280 — equivalent to 0.024% of the contract value — charged for each day of delay.

He explained that from the end of the Extension of Time (EOT) on July 10, 2025, to Dec 31, 2025, the project was delayed by 174 days, resulting in LAD totalling RM474,894,729. Loke said the contractor is aware of the penalty, and Prasarana has received assurances that all outstanding issues will be addressed promptly.

Responding to a question from Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) about whether the delays were linked to Siemens’ failure to deliver satisfactory software on time, Loke said the setbacks were not solely due to Siemens but also involved other factors.

Siemens, in partnership with Rasma Corporation Sdn Bhd, was appointed to supply and install the signalling and train control system, as well as the track intrusion detection system, for the fully automated driverless line running from Johan Setia in Klang to Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya.

Loke added that delays were also caused by setbacks in conducting critical tests for other system packages, including the communications system and integration tests, which have since been completed, as well as several failed attempts during FFR testing. Prasarana’s priority now is to complete FFR testing for the remaining eight train sets.
