The LRT3 Shah Alam Line is now expected to open in June 2026, with a possible earlier launch in April. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced this during an interview on 5 February, citing confidence in the progress being made.

Why the delays? The project, originally slated for late 2023, has faced repeated delays due to software and signalling issues discovered during rigorous testing. Officials prioritized passenger safety, requiring a "fault-free run" (FFR) of 4,000km for each train set before operation could begin. Any error resets the testing process.

Current Status: The FFR is nearing completion for the first trains (99% complete), is at 82% for the second batch, and is about to start for the final group. All FFRs are expected to be finished by the end of February, with final trials following shortly after.

What is the LRT3 Line? It's a 37.8km rail line connecting Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, serving over two million residents in the Klang Valley. It will connect with existing MRT and LRT lines. Originally planned with more stations, the project has undergone adjustments, including the reinstatement of five previously cancelled stations at a cost of RM5.3 billion. Essentially, it's a story of a delayed but crucial public transportation project, emphasizing the importance of safety and thorough testing despite setbacks.
