Despite delays affecting the Shah Alam LRT line, Prasarana recorded strong performance across its existing rail and bus services. Average daily ridership climbed to 1.31 million passengers in 2025, an 11% increase from 1.18 million in 2024. Usage peaked on Dec 31, 2025, when a record 1.63 million passengers used public transport. The increase was attributed to growing public confidence in the reliability and consistency of rail and bus operations. On New Year’s Eve alone, rail services carried 1.35 million passengers, while buses recorded 302,700 riders.

Rail performance also improved significantly in 2025. Technical disruptions—defined as delays of more than five minutes—fell by 56% year-on-year to 31 incidents. This compares with 71 disruptions in 2024, 118 in 2023 and 252 in 2022, representing an overall reduction of 87% over three years. These improvements were highlighted during the annual review of the operator’s performance, with appreciation expressed to both management and frontline staff for their efforts. The reduction in incidents was credited to the development of a stronger maintenance culture, particularly among rail engineers.

While the long-term goal remains zero disruptions, it was noted that public perception of public transport is shaped more by personal experience than statistics. Even with fewer disruptions overall, repeated negative experiences can deter users from choosing public transport. This was described as “behaviourally fragile,” underscoring the need for swift activation of contingency plans and clear communication with commuters whenever disruptions occur. It was also acknowledged that some recent disruptions were caused by external factors such as cable theft and foreign objects on the tracks. Efforts are ongoing to address these issues, with a commitment to further reduce disruptions in the coming year.

Meanwhile, work to modernise the bus fleet continues. A total of 310 diesel buses are being delivered in phases, with procurement expected to be completed by February 2026. This will be followed by the rollout of 250 electric buses starting in March, with full delivery of the electric fleet targeted for completion by March 2027.
