Travel Tips
Essential information to take note of during your rail travels in Kuala Lumpur
Clothing
In Malaysia, the hot climate encourages a casual dress code, with shorts, sandals, flip-flops, and t-shirts being common and generally accepted especially in urban areas. However, in public offices, more formal attire like long slacks and closed-toe shoes are required. In kampungs (villages), it’s essential to dress conservatively and avoid revealing outfits to respect local religious norms. When visiting places of worship, it's important to dress modestly and respectfully. For both men and women, this typically means covering shoulders and knees. In mosques, women are often required to wear a headscarf and a long, loose-fitting dress or robe. Men may need to wear long pants and avoid shorts.

Fares
Kuala Lumpur MRT, LRT and Monorail are operated by RapidKL and offers affordable fares based on the distance traveled. Fares range from around RM 1 to RM 11 for a single journey and can be done using Single Journey token or Touch ‘n Go card, a prepaid stored value multiple use card. For greater convenience, passengers are recommended to use the Touch ‘n Go card for entry and exit at stations as this card can be reused multiple times until the stored value has to be reloaded. The card can be purchased and reloaded from customer service counters within transit rail stations. There will be a slight discount on fares when using the Touch n Go card compared to Single Journey Tokens. More savings can be had by purchasing daily and monthly unlimited travel passes to be loaded onto the Touch ‘n Go card.

Kuala Lumpur has a tropical climate, hot and humid year-round, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C. Dress in light, breathable clothes and comfortable footwear for walking. Stay hydrated by carrying a water bottle, and always have an umbrella or rain jacket, as sudden showers are common all year round, but especially during the monsoon season (March-April & October-January). Use sunscreen and wear sunglasses or a hat to protect from the intense sun. Plan outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler. Take breaks in air-conditioned spaces to stay comfortable, and check the weather forecast for the day ahead.
