The 47th ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpure from 26 to 28 October 2025 will serve not only as a key regional forum but also as a strategic platform to showcase Malaysia’s leadership as ASEAN Chair and its commitment to strengthening the bloc’s global presence. This year’s summit, held under the theme “Inclusion and Sustainability,” is expected to be one of the largest and most significant in ASEAN’s history.
Among the notable developments is the attendance of the presidents of Brazil and South Africa, who will participate as ASEAN’s new Sectoral Dialogue Partners. Additionally, Cyprus and Finland are set to be officially recognised as full dialogue partners during the summit. Several prominent global leaders are also expected to attend, including United States President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. While Chinese President Xi Jinping’s attendance remains unconfirmed, leaders who have confirmed their presence include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.
Road users in the Klang Valley should anticipate significant traffic diversions and temporary road closures from October 26 to 28. Authorities have announced that six major highways and 25 key roads will be affected by rolling closures lasting 30 to 45 minutes at a time to facilitate the smooth and secure movement of official motorcades during the three-day event.
Roads affected:
Jalan Ampang
Jalan Sultan Ismail
Jalan P. Ramlee
Jalan Pinang
Jalan Binjai
Persiaran KLCC
Jalan Tun Razak
Jalan Parlimen

Intersections expected to be affected:

Jalan Stonor – Persiaran KLCC
Main expressways involved:
Maju Expressway (MEX)
North-South Expressway (PLUS) from Sungai Buloh to Jalan Duta
ELITE Expressway (KLIA–Putrajaya)
New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) from Subang to Jalan Duta
Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
KL–Seremban Expressway (Sungai Besi–City Centre)
Currently, full-scale motorcade rehearsals are ongoing until October 24, involving routes between KLIA’s Bunga Raya Complex, Subang Air Base, KL Convention Centre (KLCC), Seri Negara, and major hotels in Kuala Lumpur. To reduce congestion, heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city centre during peak summit hours. Authorities strongly encourage the public to use public transportation, including MRT, LRT, monorail, and Rapid KL buses.

The summit will conclude with the official Closing Ceremony and the handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines. This will be followed by a press conference delivered by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, marking the end of Malaysia’s term as ASEAN Chair and the conclusion of what is anticipated to be a landmark summit for the region. Due to the many road closures and traffic diversions, higher traveling times on the road are to be expected. Thus it will be a good idea to utilize public transportation such as the LRT or MRT if you have any matters to attend to in the area.
